Project Overview

The project demanded a brand identity as untamed as the myths that inspired it, one that could hold its own on shelves saturated with minimalism.

The objective was to build Lore Coffee Co. from the ground up: a brand rooted in the mythological lore of the world's great coffee origins. Brazil, Colombia, and Indonesia each gave life to one product in The Three Omens collection. The result needed to feel ritualistic, collectible, and undeniably different, speaking directly to young, alternative coffee drinkers who see their cup as a statement.

Approach

Designing for Lore meant entering the worlds of the Curupira, the Madremonte, and the Orang Pendek: Forest guardians and mythic creatures whose stories have been passed down for centuries. The brand's visual direction was built around these figures: not as mascots, but as omens. Entities that carry meaning.

Each creature was paired with its origin country's coffee terroir. The Curupira with Brazil's dense Atlantic Forest, the Madremonte with Colombia's misty Andes, and the Orang Pendek with Sumatra's volcanic highlands. The visual system was designed to feel like it had been pulled from a field notebook: raw, mythic, alive.

Process

The process began deep in research: into the mythologies, the coffee origins, and the subcultures that would wear this brand.

Creature design came first: each omen had to feel rooted in its culture, yet striking enough to anchor a retail product. Illustration style, color theory, and typography were developed in parallel, with Pantone® Neon palettes acting as a unifying thread across the three SKUs. Every design decision was made to create shelf disruption without sacrificing coherence. Packaging became the primary canvas. The three bags, Curupira (Brazil), Madremonte (Colombia), and Orang Pendek (Indonesia), each carry their omen's full mythology: origin region, roast character, and a visual language that rewards close inspection. The Three Omens are designed to be collected, not just consumed.

Every culture leaves warnings behind. We made them something worth holding.

The Three Omens collection launched as a fully resolved brand system, from creature illustration to packaging die-lines. Each of the three products carries its own visual identity while functioning as part of a cohesive set. Designed for the alternative consumer who drinks with intention, Lore Coffee Co. is built to disrupt the shelf and build a cult following.
